As a rule, I would say that big-beat is not a genre that has aged well in the last 15 years. And as the exception that proves the rule, take this tune. Trickshot is formulaic in its build-ups and snare rolls. Very formulaic in its wah-guitar loops and horn-stabs. Even more formulaic in its too-cool-for-school Carlito's Way samples. But it just works. Nearly seven minutes of fabulous faultless funk, which was never bettered by this short-lived outfit.
Using exactly the same process, but varying things slightly with percussion, vocal samples and scratching, She Don't Lie is boring and over-long. Ghost Train lives up to the latter part of its name, the rhythm section lending a lot of train-esque sounds. Mellow, Slightly Plodding, Train might have been a better name.
