Part Two of the recent new Gescom 12s (Part One reviewed here), and C1 continues the harsh metallic clatter of A1 and B1, this time with a stuttering beat and odd time signature which never resolves into anything you might be able to dance to. The sounds of white noise and pipes hitting pipes fly around over the top, and it closes like a cut from Chiastic Slide.
C2 is mostly a high-pitched and high-speed cacophony, and very hard to listen to, or say anything nice about. There's a sound that reminded me of Frank Sidebottom in there somewhere, and there is a cartoony feel to the whole thing. It becomes something approaching normal, when most of the high fast noises have gone, and a decent enough beat comes in, which plods along for a bit, then suddenly ends. Most odd.
D1's upbeat electro was a blessed relief after that, a funky bassline, occasional backwards spins dropped in, and some indiscernible vocal samples. It loses the bass part way through, in favour of some higher-end hissing sounds and backwards antics, which is a shame, as the dance-floor funk feel goes as well, and it begins to sound like a studio exercise. The hissing sounds go too, and a rhythmic workout finishes the tracks off. An interesting EP, though not one I'd recommend to most.
